Dinosaur and amphibian footprints are considered a trace fossil, when learning paleontology. Fossil footprints are formed the following way: 1. A Dinosaur or Amphibian steps in soft dirt or mud; 2. A cast of the dinosaur or amphibian foot is formed.; 3. The cast is covered over millions of years.; Weathering cracks the rock.
The official fossil of the State of Massachusetts is the Dinosaur Track.
